Terms of Service

The short version

HelioScript is an educational tool that reads five specific vitamin D receptor genetic markers from a raw DNA file you provide. It is not a medical service, not a diagnostic test, and not a substitute for a doctor. We are not liable if you make health decisions based on it without first talking to a qualified professional.

By using HelioScript, you agree to the terms below. The rest of this page is the formal version of the same agreement.

1. What HelioScript is

HelioScript is a web-based tool that reads a raw DNA export file (from AncestryDNA or 23andMe), locates five specific vitamin D receptor markers within it (FokI, BsmI, ApaI, TaqI, Cdx2), and produces a short plain language educational report describing what variants you carry, an honest caveat about the limits of genetic interpretation, and a practical next step.

HelioScript is operated by the NutrientGaps team. Use of HelioScript is governed by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

2. What HelioScript is not

HelioScript is not:

• A medical device, diagnostic test, or clinical laboratory service
• A substitute for evaluation by a qualified healthcare provider
• A complete analysis of your DNA, since we read five markers out of millions
• A predictor of disease, lifespan, treatment outcome, or fitness for any purpose
• Reviewed, approved, or evaluated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), or any equivalent regulator
• Compliant with HIPAA or covered as a Business Associate, because we do not retain protected health information

The five markers HelioScript reads are well-studied in the scientific literature, but the relationships between SNP genotypes and clinical outcomes are complex, vary between populations, and remain an active research field. Treat the report as one input among many, not as a verdict.

3. No medical advice

Nothing in any HelioScript report, blog post, or other site content constitutes medical advice. We do not have a doctor-patient relationship with you. The plain language interpretation in your report is an educational summary of published research, not personalized medical guidance.

Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before starting, stopping, or changing any supplement, medication, or treatment. If you have an active health condition, the only safe interpretation of HelioScript results is one performed with your physician.

4. Eligibility and acceptable use

You must be at least 18 years old to use HelioScript. You agree to use the service only with a DNA file that belongs to you or that the rightful owner has explicitly authorized you to analyze.

You agree not to:

• Use HelioScript to analyze another person's DNA without their informed consent
• Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or overload the service
• Circumvent rate limits or other technical controls
• Scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of our blog or other site content without permission
• Use HelioScript output to make decisions about hiring, insurance, lending, or other consequential matters about other people

We may suspend or restrict access for users who violate these terms.

5. Pricing

Uploading your DNA file and seeing a parsing summary is free. Unlocking the full plain language report (your per-site copy counts, the practical next-step section with options to explore, the technical-detail layer, and the PDF download) is a one-time payment of $29 USD. There is no subscription and no recurring billing.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card information is never seen by HelioScript. Refund requests can be sent to hello@helioscript.bio.

6. Privacy and data handling

Our handling of your data is described in detail in our Privacy Policy. In summary: we do not retain your raw DNA. Files are destroyed within milliseconds of analysis. We do not sell or share your data with insurers, employers, advertisers, or other third parties. Your report exists only in your browser.

7. Intellectual property

The HelioScript name, logo, design, software code, blog posts, and other site content are owned by the NutrientGaps team and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may share links to our content, quote brief excerpts with attribution, and use your own report for personal purposes.

You may not reproduce, republish, or distribute substantial portions of our content commercially without our written permission.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

HelioScript is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We make no warranty that:

• The service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free
• Your DNA file will parse correctly (some files are corrupted, partial, or use formats we do not yet support)
• The educational interpretation of your markers will be definitive or applicable to your specific clinical situation
• The site will be free of bugs or vulnerabilities

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, HelioScript and the NutrientGaps team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service. This includes (but is not limited to) damages for lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, or any health outcome that you attribute to action or inaction based on HelioScript results.

Our total cumulative liability for any direct damages arising from your use of HelioScript is limited to the amount you have paid us in the preceding twelve months, which is currently zero.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations on warranties or liability. In those jurisdictions, the relevant provision of these terms applies only to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HelioScript and the NutrientGaps team from any claim arising out of your misuse of the service, including but not limited to analyzing another person's DNA without consent or using the report to make decisions about another person without their knowledge.

11. Modifications to the service

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any feature of HelioScript at any time without prior notice. We may also update these Terms of Service. Material changes will be announced on the homepage. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation, and if not resolved within sixty days, in the state or federal courts located in Santa Clara County, California.

If you live in a jurisdiction where this clause is unenforceable, the dispute will be governed by your local law to the minimum extent required.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
